NY Times editor compares religious belief to belief that space aliens live among us

....and suggests that candidates for President should explain their faith.

[ NY Times article: http://goo.gl/2OIAv ]

" Oh I LIKE this guy!

Courtesy of Bill Keller of the NYT: [ http://goo.gl/2OIAv ]

If a candidate for president said he believed that space aliens dwell among us, would that affect your willingness to vote for him? Personally, I might not disqualify him out of hand; one out of three Americans believe we have had Visitors and, hey, who knows? But I would certainly want to ask a few questions. Like, where does he get his information? Does he talk to the aliens? Do they have an economic plan? This year’s Republican primary season offers us an important opportunity to confront our scruples about the privacy of faith in public life — and to get over them. We have an unusually large number of candidates, including putative front-runners, who belong to churches that are mysterious or suspect to many Americans. Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman are Mormons, a faith that many conservative Christians have been taught is a “cult” and that many others think is just weird. (Huntsman says he is not “overly religious.”) Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann are both affiliated with fervid subsets of evangelical Christianity — and Rick Santorum comes out of the most conservative wing of Catholicism — which has raised concerns about their respect for the separation of church and state, not to mention the separation of fact and fiction.

I honestly don’t care if Mitt Romney wears Mormon undergarments beneath his Gap skinny jeans, or if he believes that the stories of ancient American prophets were engraved on gold tablets and buried in upstate New York, or that Mormonism’s founding prophet practiced polygamy (which was disavowed by the church in 1890). Every faith has its baggage, and every faith holds beliefs that will seem bizarre to outsiders. I grew up believing that a priest could turn a bread wafer into the actual flesh of Christ. ...." -- Continued: http://goo.gl/wJRIt

townhall.com - Help Stop the Radical Environmentalists - joke of the day

Why do they want to kill the essential resources of capitalism and democracy?

It's simple: Capitalism and human progress are the antithesis of radicals' planned enviro-topia because they believe man and all we have achieved is the scourge of earth.

Unfortunately more and more people are being fooled into following the radical enviro-conspirators down this dangerous path. Our crashing stock market, growing unemployment- and Chinese control of essential minerals and economic ascendency are signs of their success.

Don't be fooled – they have a vision for America and it's not one either you or we share.

Let's STOP them now before it's too late. [ http://goo.gl/g4Pmi ]

Take the FIRST STEP right now to STOP the Radical Agenda.

Defend America by standing up and being counted – it'll cost you nothing other than your willingness to join.

Resourceful Earth, a project of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, is ready to kick some green and take the fight to them.

Our sole focus is to free the American resources of capitalism available under our feet that have been held hostage by Radical greens and their compliant EPA.

You know what will destroy the Radical Environmentalist Agenda to destroy our nation? They lose when we can produce cheap gas, affordable electricity from coal, and vast domestic supplies of minerals like copper and rare earths.

The radicals know it! That's why they are so strenuously fighting every plan to drill or mine.

Here's what we will do to fight back:

Dominate the public debate to show the public the radicals war on coal, oil, and mining is stalling economic growth.

Expose the corporate cowards, media know-nothings, and Green RINOs. the radicals hide behind. We will call them out by name and judge them by the company they keep.

Uncover and sever the big greens' funding from foundations, radicals, and foreign sources.

Finally we will fight in the trenches and no longer allow them to own the voice of the people in public hearings and the permitting process.

We are prepared to take the fight to them – for you all it takes is for you to join with us as we build this army.

Together we will dismantle the green agenda and restore American prosperity.

Fav. forum comment of the month: Digg Patriots have expressed concern

Digg.com forum: http://goo.gl/stKs4

" anomaly100

Open Request:

Active members of the Digg Patriots [ http://notruepatriot.org/public/8-10.html ] have expressed concern over being down voted while others are being up voted. I ask you to show them compassion and allow them to carry on with their business as usual (wink wink) without feeling less popular or inferior than they already are.

Although the down/up voting is a big part of Digg, they prefer it's ignored while they are commenting. This is apparently extremely important to them, since Digg is their life's focus.

Hopefully this open request will 'pacify' active members of the Digg Patriots. I post this message in good faith asking nothing in return from the DP's (because I'm just nice like that).

Carry on. Express your feigned outrage (Grrr! Roar!).

Thank you & Sincerely,

Anomaly100 "

...The more vociferous among Bush's foes have noted that he spent a month at the ranch shortly before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, when critics assert he should have been more attentive to warning signs....

...Until now, probably no modern president was a more famous vacationer than Ronald Reagan, who loved spending time at his ranch in Santa Barbara, Calif. According to an Associated Press count, Reagan spent all or part of 335 days in Santa Barbara over his eight-year presidency -- a total that Bush will surpass this month in Crawford with 3 1/2 years left in his second term..." -- http://goo.gl/gyzFY

But at the same point in his first term, President George W. Bush had taken far more time away - 14 trips to his ranch in Midland, Texas, and 40 to Camp David, totaling 225 days.

Presidents, though, are never truly on vacation. Crises often arise - for example, the Christmas Day bomber tried to strike while President Obama was vacationing in Hawaii. For President Bush, Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf during a long stay at his ranch.

townhall.com - OTC Bullion trading is now Illegal for all U.S. Residents - joke of the week

It's Now Official!

Over The Counter (OTC) Bullion trading is now Illegal for all U.S. Residents.

The commodity futures trading Commission (CFTC) Now has a foot hold on the physical bullion market. A feat this Government Agency has tried to achieve since its 1974 inception.

Coincidentally, 1974 is when Americans were given back the right to own Bullion

(1933- Dec 1974 ban on Bullion) by executive order (11825), by then President Gerald Ford.

The CFTC's June 14th, meeting on The Dodds Frank Act, set forth the final rules on all

Over The Counter markets, including retail commodity transactions of physical Bullion.

This is first step toward their ultimate goal.

Discover Their Ultimate Plot [ http://goo.gl/iPaES ]

Their reasons why and what you could do to protect your wealth.

" Bullion Now Illegal for ALL U.S. Residents

The Over the Counter (OTC) Bullion Markets, Banned for ALL U.S. Residents and corporations as of July 15, 2011.

Many OTC Precious metal Dealers have already begun to Unwind their Bullion Retail businesses; including one of the world's largest, Forex.com

The New Law will initially Ban Tangible Bullion that is purchased or sold on Finance, Leverage, and Margin... for now!

Purchasing Gold & Silver and taking personal delivery or having it delivered to a Depository is Exempt from this New Ban... Thanks to GOLDWORTH FINANCIAL and other dealers, who were able to lobby Congress for this Exemption.

The Ban on Physical/Tangible Bullion trading is set forth by the Dodd-Frank Reform and Consumer Protection Act, specifically section 742 and the newly amended section 2(C)(2)(D), dealing in Retail Commodity Transactions. As well as, section 2(C)(2)(E) of the Commodity Exchange Act, which refers to Spot Retail Transactions.

The New Law will NOT Regulate Spot/Cash Market Transactions, But rather make such Transactions Illegal!

Why?

Is it to Protect "Consumers" from Leverage, and Financed purchases of Gold & Silver?

Perhaps...

There's certainly A Lot of "Consumers" Losing money with Bullion Dealers who sell metals on a Margin basis.

But!... Why not Regulate Bullion trading Firms, much like the Feds Regulate Series 3 Gold Commodity trading Firms?

If "Client" protection is their Goal...The Feds are NOT doing such a great job.

Statistics show as much as 92-96% of Clients Trading with "Regulated" Series 3 Commodity Brokers Lose their Money!... Futures & Options are High Leverage-High Margin positions.

So, could the Only reason be "Government Regulated" Precious Metal Brokers... Transact in "Paper" Gold? While... OTC-Dealers Transact in Real Gold Bullion?

We can only start connecting the dots.

We recently saw a Drop in Gold & Silver, Due to the highly Publicized Increase Margin requirements by the Comex-Mercantile Exchange.

The Exchange was "Encouraged" by a Government Agency, The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to Increase margin Numerous Times to keep "Volatility" Down.

Well, the Only Thing that was Brought Down was the price of Gold, especially Silver; which dropped from $50.00 to $32.00 per oz.

Now, ask yourself,

Was this Government Agency (CFTC) protecting "Consumers" from the Rising price of Gold & Silver?

OR!

Was this Agency Protecting what little value the U.S. Dollar has Against Gold & Silver?

The answer is obvious...

Consumers were NOT being hurt by the Rise in Gold & Silver.

The Only victim was the Value & Reputation of the "Paper" U.S. Dollar! (Gold trades Against the Dollar)

Nevertheless, The Government tactic worked!

The Margin Increase, Squeezed out Most small & mid size investors; leaving an Open Field for Large Institutions like Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan.

The Trillion Dollar Questions are...

Will the Government go after Your Physical Gold & Silver?
Does the Government want to Ban and make ALL Gold & Silver Bullion Illegal?
If the following is Any Indication of their Ultimate Plot...We should ALL be Afraid!

The CFTC (Gov. Agency) pushed Congress to Outlaw All Bullion that is NOT deliverable to Retail "Consumers" within 48 hours.

That would Shutdown 95% of All Retail Dealers....Overnight!

No Matter how Large a Dealer maybe,... No Dealer sits on ENDLESS amounts of Inventory.

The Dealer would eventually have to Order Inventory from Mints such as U.S., Canada, Austria, South Africa or Directly through the Exchange. Nonetheless, delivery takes 3-14 days.

Which does NOT complete the process, the product would still need to be shipped to the Retail Investor...

A 48 Hour Delivery Mandate is Ultimately Impossible.

Ultimately, making ALL Bullion transactions Illegal by DEFAULT!

This is Exactly what CFTC (gov. agency) pushed for.

So, ask yourself...

Is the Frank-Dobbs reform and Consumer Protection Act,

about "Consumer Protection" Or Government Control?

History has taught us...

First comes Government control, then comes Government Ban/Confiscation!

Remember,...Who or "What" controls the Money, controls Everything!

Gold & Silver is Real Wealth, Real Protection.

Fellow Conservative,

The Obama administration will Not stop; they will use the CFTC or other Government agencies to push their Agenda!

Your Freedom & Time to Own Tangible Gold & Silver is Running Out!

Tangible Gold & Silver have been the Best Protection from Inflation and Economic Turmoil; Some Gold Categories have been Exempted from Past Government Bans/Confiscations.

Take the First Step toward Wealth Protection.

townhall.com - Group that Attacks Republicans Exposed - joke of the week

Perhaps you’ve heard of the organization called the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW). The mainstream media (and Rachel Maddow) darling is often described as a “nonpartisan watchdog.” Newspaper reporters and cable news commentators want you to think that this collective is keeping tabs on Washington and making sure that both sides of the aisle play fair. Don’t be fooled: CREW is as partisan as they come.

To find out the truth about CREW, go to CREWExposed.com. Here you’ll find a wealth of information about the hyper-partisan activities of this “nonpartisan” group. Among the nuggets:

• Overall, CREW targets Republicans or right-leaning organizations with Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Federal Election Commission (FEC), and congressional ethics complaints eight times more frequently than Democrats;

• 76 percent of CREW FEC complaints were aimed at Republicans/right-leaning groups,

• 100 percent of CREW IRS complaints were aimed at Republicans/right-leaning groups,

• 75 percent of CREW complaints/requests for action with the House Ethics Committee, and 83 percent of CREW complaints/requests for action with the Senate Ethics Committee, were targeted at Republicans;

• CREW has filed 51 lawsuits, 75 percent of which have been aimed at Republicans or the Bush Administration. Only 18 percent were aimed at Democrats.

When one looks at those who work at CREW, these facts aren’t surprising: An analysis of current and past staff members revealed that exactly zero had worked for Republicans or right-leaning organizations before joining CREW. Many of them had worked for Democratic legislators like Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden or liberal organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. And the organization was founded by, among others, Mark Penn, a close ally of the Clintons.

Where does CREW get their funding? You may or may not be surprised. Here’s a hint: A billionaire originally from Eastern Europe has kicked in some funds. Click here [ http://goo.gl/21MzW ] to find out more.

So is CREW a nonpartisan watchdog or Democratic lapdog? Go to CREWExposed.com and you’ll find the answer is pretty obvious. Check out the site and share this with your friends so they aren’t duped by the next news article that features CREW propaganda.

Does Washington have a spending problem or an income problem? We offer some key facts.

Fiscal FactCheck July 15, 2011

" Summary:

Washington's spending has recently been higher as a percentage of the nation's economic output than at any time since World War II. But by the same measure, Washington's revenues are the lowest in more than 60 years.

So does the U.S. have "a spending problem," as Republicans keep repeating in the current debate over how to reduce the nation's record deficits? Or is the problem that taxes are not high enough? Those questions frame a long-running partisan debate, and as usual we won't offer an opinion one way or the other. But for those seeking their own answers, we can offer some fiscal history and factual context.

Some key facts we think are worth considering:

Federal spending ("outlays" in budget jargon) is expected to equal 24.1 percent of the nation's gross domestic product in the current fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30. The figure was 25 percent in fiscal year 2009, highest since 1945.

On the other hand, federal revenues are expected to drop to 14.8 percent of GDP this year, lower even than the 14.9 percent attained in both 2009 and 2010. There has been only one year since World War II when revenues have been as low as in any of these years: 1950, when the figure was 14.4 percent.

These historically high rates of spending and low rates of taxation have combined to produce a chain of deficits that are also the highest since WWII. The deficit was 10.0 percent of GDP in fiscal 2009. It declined to 8.9 percent last year as the economy started to recover, but is projected to go up to over 9 percent this year. Each of these deficits is larger than in any year since 1945, measured as a percentage of GDP.

The U.S. is borrowing about 36 cents of every dollar spent so far this year. It borrowed 37 cents on the dollar last year, and 40 cents in fiscal 2009.

The largest components of federal spending are Social Security and Medicare programs for the elderly (33.5 percent of total outlays in 2010) and national defense (20.1 percent). Interest payments on the federal debt alone accounted for 5.7 percent of all federal spending, and that percentage is rising.

The federal income tax accounted for 41.5 percent of federal receipts in 2010 (down from 49.6 percent prior to the Bush tax cuts of 2001 – 2003). Corporate taxes brought in only 8.9 percent, also down sharply since the recent recession. Payroll taxes and other "social insurance" payments accounted for 40 percent of total receipts in 2010.

It's easy to argue one side or the other by just citing facts that support a particular view, and omitting others. In the Analysis that follows, we offer some graphics, details and documentation in an attempt to give our readers a quick look at the entire picture — both where the money goes, and where it comes from.

Analysis:

A glance at this chart quickly puts our current fiscal mess in historical context. We created it using historical budget data from the federal Office of Management and Budget, updated with the most recent estimates of the current fiscal year's outlays and receipts from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, issued June 22 as part of CBO's 2011 long-term budget outlook...."

Privacy for anyone anywhere - Tails Linux Tor Based LiveCD-Usb Distro

Linux Distro: Tails - You Can Never Be Too Paranoid

" Tails is a live media Linux distro designed boot into a highly secure desktop environment. You may remember that we looked at a US government distro with similar aims a few months ago, but Tails is different because it is aimed at the privacy conscious “normal user” rather than government workers.

Tails takes the form of a bootable live image that can be used from a CD ROM, a USB stick or via a network boot. Once booted, it executes from RAM, taking care not to make use of a swap partition. The desktop is Gnome 2.0 and the applications are a fairly standard selection. The web browser is an old, but usable, version of Iceweasel 3.5 (Debian Firefox). There are other applications to handle graphics work, audio editing, media playback, text editing, instant messaging and a email client - basically, everything you need when you’re on the run from enemy agents. Extra software can be added via the Synaptic package manager which pulls directly from the Debian repositories. So far, so similar to most other live desktop distros. Security and limited footprint on the the host machine are the areas in which the distro differs from the run of the mill.

All interactions with the Internet are passed through Tor an anonymization system. Using Tor, Tails pipes all Internet traffic emanating from your computer through a constantly shifting set of relays that are operated by a network of volunteers. " Continued: http://goo.gl/rAZaa

During these subsequent visits, additional information can be gathered and additional attempts at file, security and system access on the Honey can be monitored and saved...." Palin - Bridge to Nowhere - FactCheck

" Q: What's the full story on the Bridge to Nowhere?

A: Palin supported it even after McCain denounced it, then blamed "inaccurate portrayals" when she canceled it for lack of money. Obama and Biden voted for the big transportation bill that contained it. McCain's vote was one of four against. Our time line gives full details.

"....NBC News, Sept. 13: Palin has come under fire in recent days for misleadingly saying she told Congress “thanks but no thanks,” refusing an earmark for a bridge to a sparsely inhabited island in her home state. Independent groups and media fact-checkers have said Palin advocated for the federal earmark before opposing it, only ended after Congress had essentially killed it, and kept the $223 million for the appropriation after the project was killed.

Palin had cut the refrain from her speech during her three-day visit to Alaska. But she came back to it today, citing it as an example of earmark reform she and McCain would push for in the White House.

“I told Congress thanks but no thanks to that Bridge to Nowhere – that if our state wanted to build that bridge, we would build it ourselves," she said....."

"....Palin (Sept. 2007): Despite the work of our congressional delegation, we are about $329 million short of full funding for the bridge project, and it's clear that Congress has little interest in spending any more money on a bridge between Ketchikan and Gravina Island. Much of the public's attitude toward Alaska bridges is based on inaccurate portrayals of the projects here. But we need to focus on what we can do, rather than fight over what has happened..."

"..The digested version of the time line:

Palin expressed support for the bridge while running for office.

Congress removed earmarks for both bridges long before Palin was elected.

While campaigning, Palin still made statements supporting the Gravina bridge, which had no earmarks at that time.

Palin chose not to use the money for the Gravina bridge but kept it for other projects, including the Knik Arm bridge.

Biden and Obama voted for the authorization bill, which included the earmarks, and the final appropriations bill, which didn't. McCain voted against the authorization but was not present for the vote on the appropriations bill.

Biden and Obama voted against redirecting the money intended for Alaska to Louisiana. McCain did not vote.

As we said above, Palin is still using the discredited "thanks, but no thanks" line, which implies that Congress gave Alaska money for the bridge and that Palin rejected it. But in a September interview with ABC's Charlie Gibson, she said that she had supported the bridge, that the money from Congress was given to Alaska for general transportation expenses and not for the bridge particularly, and that the state kept that money...."
